Books or Computers

Today I brought up a question in our PLC meeting. We were discussing our upcoming textbook orders and I suggested that we try to convince the school to buy us a couple of mobile computer labs rather than new textbooks. It’s not a well thought out plan, but just a thought to consider. For the most part, we all feel that we only use texts to teach a few short stories for the purpose of demonstrating particular literary elements. My impression was that none of us were fixed on any particular stories. So, I thought if we had our own computer labs to pass about, we could read new stories online. This way, we wouldn’t have to be sharing computers all the time like we do now and we’d be able to do more units involving computer use.

People like the idea, in general, but when I say we would read short stories online, not novels, mind you, quite a few teachers got nervous about that.

I wonder how many people would choose computers over textbooks. There are many reasons for it…

I am the language lover and these are my thoughts.
